Semaglutide (such as Ozempic) or Tirzepatide

If you, your patients, or family members are taking Semaglutide (such as Ozempic) or Tirzepatide, there are some recommended nutrients that may help reduce side effects like fatigue, nausea, GERD, and muscle loss.

It’s advised that patients consume approximately 1 gram of protein per kilogram of body weight per day. For example, if you weigh 100 kg, that’s about 100 grams of protein daily, which is roughly equivalent to 15 oz of cooked animal protein.

To manage constipation, increasing fiber intake is key. Foods such as carrots, broccoli, and beans, along with fiber supplements like psyllium husk, can be helpful.

Additionally, this medication may affect vitamin B12 absorption, potentially leading to deficiency. Therefore, it is recommended to check vitamin B12 levels regularly.

Calcium intake is also important, as weight loss can lead to a decrease in bone mineral density. Maintaining adequate calcium levels is essential.
